I have been trying up update to latest version. Now have 4.02.019. I get this error message: "object reference not set to an instance of an object". Will I no longer be able to do listings when the new requirements start on July 27? If so, can somebody at Blackthorne PLEASE tell me how to download the newest version? Thanks. |

Use the board Search for the phrase 'Database Repair'. What you need to do for the 'Object..' message. |

Do you see that error when running the install file to install the upgrade or do you see the error when trying to open BT from the desktop big blue B? It sounds like you see the issue with a "Run" for the install file for the upgrade which means the file you downloaded is corrupt or if you didn’t download it and only use “Run” there an issue with temp files in Window. To clear the issue from the machine: Delete the downloaded install file, "installebayblackthorne.exe" if you downloaded it. Clear temp files in Windows. Download the install file and see if you can "Run" the exe. As with any upgrade, be sure to make a database backup prior to the upgrade. Go to "Tools-Database Administration" to create a backup, note the name of it so you know which is the latest backup. With Blackthorne closed. Please go to the following URL to do so: http://www.blackthornesw.com/download/InstalleBayBlackthorne.exe Choose "save" or "save file to disk", select a location to download the file to and click "save" to start the download. Once the download is complete, run it to install the program. I am getting this error also when trying to install the latest version. I download the .exe file (for version 4.03.019) to my desktop, double-click, click "run", next, "I accept", next, next, install, then I get the error "object reference not set to an instance of an object".
Until this week I was running a rather old version, so I tried upgrading in steps, and was able to upgrade to version 4.03.006 beta, but I get the error with any more recent version (4.03.010 or newer). I have no reason to think the exe file is corrupt (I got it from the blackthornesw.com/download link and I have tried several times). I have done a database repair and cleared Windows temp files, as suggested above, but it did not help. I would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks. |

Hello all, To fix this error, you will want to delete a file called "bt.pvt". It is located at the following path: C:\Documents and Settings\<youruser>\Application Data\eBay\Blackthorne (XP) C:\Users\<youruser>\AppData\Roaming\eBay\Blackthorne (Vista/Win7) The application folders may be hidden so you'll want to enable them if they're not showing. Instructions to do so are below once you're in Windows Explorer. For XP: Go up to the "tools" menu in windows explorer, select "folder options", then select the "view" tab. Make sure "show hidden files and folders" is selected. For Vista/Windows 7: click the "Organize" dropdown and select "Folder and Search options". Next, select the "view" tab and make sure "show hidden files and folders" is checked.elect the "view" tab and make sure "show hidden files and folders" is checked. Once you're in the Blackthorne folder, locate and delete the following file: bt.pvt Once the file has been deleted, go ahead and run the upgrade again. It should upgrade Blackthorne without error. I hope this information is helpful. Regards, Jonathan eBay Blackthorne Technical Support "Just walk away"
