After upgrading to the latest version on 7.15 I have now lost most all of the descriptions in my running listings. The products listed on ebay have all of their descriptions BUT if I try to update one of the running listings the revised version will have not description and when I do an export of my running listing products almost all of the descriptions are missing.

I would think that this would be a MAJOR issues & I would advise you all to check your descriptions in your running listings before you do any major revisions.

I had to backup to a previous database that is 7 days old to get all of my data back.

I tried exporting the running listings that have the descriptions then restoring to the latest version where the running listings do NOT have the descriptions & doing an update for just the descriptions matching the listing id BUT the system asked me if I wanted to revise the running listings & I was afraid of doing more damage.

If any tech support or BT expert has any suggestions on how I can get my descriptions back with OUT having to go back 7 days I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Tim

The first obvious thing to do is check the assigned Ad Template(s).
The AT Design View tab must have a double bracketed 'Description' tag.

Bam--wish it was so simple--Ad template--
that's not the problem...

Jonathan told me from tech support that"

Descriptions are stored in their own table and have a description ID.
This ID is then assigned to the listing record when you create the description in the listing record. Your descriptionfields table has over 45,000 description records.

The issue is most of your listing records are assigned description ID 1.
When I look at description ID 1 in the descriptionfields table, it is blank. "

I went ahead & restored to the database saved earlier where the descriptions are in tact.

I have a question though....I have about 500 products that need to be deleted on BT......before I realized the problem with the descriptions I did an update import & deleted them that way.

Since I had to revert to an older database now I have to do these deletions again. While I am fairly certain the upgrade is what messed with my descriptions I am not 100% positive. There might also be a glitch in the update import system.

Does anybody out there have any advice for me regarding the best way to do bulk deletions from both the running listings & items?

Thanks,

Tim

...did an update import & deleted them that way.

?

Just select one or multiple records, right click and 'Delete'.

If you delete 'Items' all of their associated Listings/Sales will be deleted too.
If you delete 'Listings' their associated Sales will be deleted. But not the Items.

BAM-
I have over 5,000 items so deleting 500 individually would requite me to search for EACH individual one--that is why I was using the update import & putting the text "delete" in the note section & sorting them that way.
I understand you can select one record , right click, & delete...I am beyond that....

There must be some criteria that determines your reason for deleting these records.
Right?
So isn't there some field/factor to sort by? To group these together?

The criteria is that the supplier deleted them from their inventory so no there is no criteria for me to sort by----

What I did was export my running listings out, do a vlookup against the running listings & discontinued list, put the word "delete" in the note section, did an update import back in, sorted by the "note" field, & ended them all BUT
...big "BUT", two days after this notice ALL of my descriptions were missing! So either the import update has a glitch or it is a glitch in this latest version (had upgraded to around the same time)so......before I delete them all individually I wanted to get some other opinions....
